Perry County Area Agency on Aging invites older adults to a free Arthritis Foundation eight-week exercise program in-person and virtually through ZOOM. Sessions include gentle range of motion exercises suitable for any fitness level and ability. Classes, conducted by a certified program leader, can be done either standing or in a chair.

Classes Tuesday and Friday mornings through Aug. 27, 10-11, at Highland Presbyterian Church, 11 Church Road, Newport, and online by calling the agency. Registration is required; no walk-ins.

Perry County Sailors Association meets the first Wednesday of every month at Newport VFW. All Merchant Marines, Coast Guard and Navy, past and present, are welcome to join. Annual membership dues are $10.

The Bower, a native plant garden and sculpture park on 36 acres in the Shermans Dale area is open and available for visits through October. Visitors can view native trees, shrubs, forbs, ferns and grasses while strolling through gardens, meadows, wetland pools, and hiking along woodland trails.
